I am proud to share with you the story of my grandmother, Ambrozine ‘Adella’ Kelly, who was born in Jamaica in 1870. Adella was a remarkable woman who served as the local midwife in the parish of Saint Mary. But she also had a passion for helping the women in her community look and feel beautiful with the help of her natural hair growth shampoo and conditioner.
Adella was determined to create a repair and nourishing shampoo to promote healthy hair growth, prevent hair breakage, and improve overall hair and scalp health. She experimented with various ingredients from her lush garden in the hills of Mile Gully, but she was particularly intrigued by the castor oil plant and its seeds.
Through much trial and error, Grandma eventually perfected her special natural hair growth shampoo by roasting and pressing the castor beans from her garden. This shampoo had a unique, dark appearance and a pleasant aroma everyone loved. It quickly became popular among her community, who praised its ability to help their hair grow and stay healthy.
As a child, my father shared stories of my grandmother’s dedication to creating the perfect natural hair growth shampoo and conditioner, which greatly inspired me. I continued her legacy by producing and distributing our Kintone shampoo and conditioner set infused with Jamaican Black Castor Oil.
